1978 Suzuki GS750 Restoration
1978 Suzuki GS750 Project Background
Every Japanese manufacturer entered into the 750 battle. Each one is a nice combination of power, economy and practicality. This particular GS hadn't seen action in quite a while. The bike didn't run, didn't stop and didn't look like much. So a typical restoration job was in order. After cleaning the carbs and setting the air and fuel screws, the bike fired up as if it never sat. With the bike running, stopping became pretty important. So after purging all the old brake fluid, cleaning the master cylinder and pistons, the bike also stops very well. The old GS also had a leaky fork so news seals were installed adding the stopping capability.
Only thing left to do was pretty it up a bit. The paint was in pretty good shape so a little cleaning, buffing and wax brought the shine out again. The engine, forks, swingarm, wheels and other cracks and crevices were all cleaned as best they could be. A fresh set of rubber topped the whole thing off. The bike is now a perfect "rider" for it's new owner. Not so nice you don't want to ride it, but nice enough you're proud of it and can use it on a regular basis.
