1983 Yamaha Seca 900

Basket case. Trainwreck. Jalopy. Take your pick. Each one is accurate when describing the initial condition of this rare, 1983 Yamaha Seca 900. Bought for a song, the new owner brought the bike here to take care of the aesthetics with pretty severe budgetary constraints. After an initial evaluation, it was time to remove the extremely bad parts and do some reconditioning.

From the factory, the Seca had silver and black graphics. A company in Bloomsburg, PA was able to supply the reproduction graphics which required a different method of application. I had to apply a single coat of clear to provide a smooth surface as well as avoid ruining a fresh base coat should one of the graphics require removal. After applying the graphics, two more coats of clear are applied in order to seal the graphics as well as the base coat. Wet-sanding and buffing completes the process. More...
